Senior Development Associate/Grants Manager

The New York State Historical Association and The Farmers’ Museum have an immediate opening for a full-time Senior Development Associate to work with the Vice President for Development in identifying sources of funding, from government and foundation grants to individuals and corporations, preparing proposals or sponsorship materials, planning and managing the proposal development and grant administration process under the guidance and direction of the Vice President for Development and working as a team member on events important to the institution.

 

The Senior Development Associate/Grants Manager will:

• Identify potential sources of funding for general and specific purposes of The Farmers’ Museum and the New York State Historical Association.
• Recommend opportunities for support to the Vice President for Development and other appropriate staff.
• Establish and monitor relationships with funding sources, working in coordination with the Vice President, recommending contacts and persons to make the contacts.
• Monitor progress of proposals submitted.
• Prepare and submit proposals to foundations and government agencies to fulfill the institution’s requirement for operating or capital funds.
• Develop and/or maintain all support systems to enable tracking, communication and decision-making for proposals and/or grants.
• Work with other staff and volunteer committees on the Horse Show, Gala, and other Development Department events.
• Coach and work with volunteers.
• Maintain high standards of professionalism and conduct oneself in a manner which shall at all times enhance the prestige and credibility of the organizations.
• Handle other duties as needed and assigned by the Vice President for Development.

Bachelor’s degree, 3-5 years of experience in a museum or similar institution, or a graduate degree. Demonstrated ability to write well and in a clearly organized manner. Prior proposal development experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to work in groups and to coordinate the production and organization of complex projects. Knowledge of database entry and management essential, Raiser’s Edge experience a plus. Pleasant yet determined demeanor, demonstrated ability to work independently and on deadline.
