Rural Education in New York State
Rural Education in New York State, One-Room Schools of the 1840s

Welcome your elementary students back to school with an investigation into education as it was in New York State over 150 years ago!  These Yorker leaflets, which come in both teacher and student editions, have a brief essay on one-room schools and fun classroom and individual activities.  Students will learn what the average school day was like for students, how the teacher conducted class, and see examples of historic textbooks from the mid-19th century.
